The Art program in Art, Architecture and Design offers a studio and fine arts education with available concentrations in Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Printmaking, and Photography. Students begin their studies in the department’s introductory foundations course sequence and continue to intermediate, advanced, and elective courses of their choosing. In their junior and senior years, students take Capstone, Honors Project, and Fusion: Design Practice courses to advance their studies and pursue individual or collaborative research.
Students in the Art major benefit from the extensive studios, labs, shops, and technologies of the department and the resources of the Lehigh University Art Galleries, which houses Lehigh University’s permanent art collection and hosts temporary exhibitions.
The major consists of 11 courses. As learning outcomes, students learn to develop technical and creative proficiency in their art practice; drive studio experimentation toward strong concepts; integrate ideas from other disciplines to enrich their work; apply critical thinking to creative problems; communicate clearly in their art, and in conversation and writing; hone their aptitude for visual observation and analysis; and produce independent work that stands at a professional level.
