The Design program in Art, Architecture and Design offers two concentrations: Graphic Design and Product Design. Students begin with the department's introductory foundations sequence before choosing a concentration. Graphic Design focuses on visual communication, including Web Design and User Experience Design. Product Design focuses on the conception, prototyping, and production of physical objects, and includes Furniture Design. In their junior and senior years, students take Professional Practice, Capstone, Honors Project, and Fusion: Design Practice courses to advance their studies and pursue individual and collaborative research.

Students in the Design major benefit from the extensive studios, labs, shops, and technologies of the department and the resources of the Lehigh University Design Labs, which support the university's interdisciplinary community of makers.

The major consists of 12 courses. As learning outcomes, students learn to develop technical and creative proficiency in their design practice; integrate knowledge from other disciplines to enrich their work; apply critical thinking to creative problems; communicate clearly through their design work, and in conversation and writing; analyze form, material, and meaning in visual communication; and apply design methods to industry or community-based projects at a professional level.
