About Art, Architecture and Design

The Department of Art, Architecture and Design offers an education that combines the depth and focus of art and design school training with the breadth and flexibility of a liberal arts curriculum. We educate students to become makers and designers, builders and creators, and to take the skills they learn in the classroom and make an impact in the world. Art, Architecture and Design students learn by doing, work with faculty who are leaders in their fields, and have access to facilities, technology, and professional and alumni networks that lead the way in educational excellence.

With four undergraduate major programs and over 1500 students enrolled each year, we are one of the largest multidisciplinary art and design departments in the Northeast and one of the fastest growing departments at Lehigh. Extensive studios, labs, and makerspaces on Lehigh's Mountaintop Campus support learning, and our students have full access to the Lehigh University Art Galleries, a premier national teaching museum and collection, and the Lehigh University Design Labs, with tools and technologies that support Lehigh's interdisciplinary community of makers. 

The department is home to student chapters of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), and Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). Together with the departments of Music and Theatre, we host the Theodore U. Horger ‘61 Artist in Residence Program, which each year brings prominent visual and performing artists to Lehigh to advance their research and work with students.
